Hit-run driver hits Caldwell trick-or-treater

GAMEWELL -- Authorities are looking for a vehicle and its driver, wanted in connection with a hit-and-run incident Wednesday evening that left a Caldwell County trick-or-treater injured.

The victim, a 7-year-old boy, is recovering from cuts and bruises to the upper part of his body, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The incident happened about 7 p.m. on Calico Road, in a neighborhood off Smokey Creek Road. That is about 3 miles southwest of Lenoir.

Troopers say the boy was trick-or-treating when he stepped off a sidewalk and into the road. Moments later, he was struck by a dark-colored Dodge Caravan. The driver of the minivan took off, according to authorities.

The minivan lost its passenger-side mirror in the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call the N.C. Highway Patrol, 828-726-2500.
