    Highest statewide: Scotland County, 16.1 percent, down 2 percent

    Lowest: Currituck County, 5.1 percent, down 0.3 percent



The unemployment rate in Mecklenburg County fell to 9.1 percent in September, down from 10.5 percent the same month last year, according to statistics released Friday by the state.

Mecklenburg’s unemployment rate remained above the statewide rate of 8.9 percent. The number of people employed in Mecklenburg rose about 2.6 percent, to 447,737, compared to the same period last year.

The number of people counted as unemployed in Mecklenburg fell 12.5 percent, to 44,668.
