The list: NFL defensive iron men

Redskins linebacker London Fletcher played last week against Pittsburgh despite dealing with a hamstring injury and balance issues. Fletcher ranks among the top five defensive players in consecutive games played since 1970:

1 Bill Romanowski, 243: The linebacker known as Romo was considered one of the dirtiest players in the league, and might best be remembered for spitting in the face of 49ers wideout J.J. Stokes.

2 London Fletcher, 232: Has not missed a game since entering the league in 1998. Has made three consecutive Pro Bowls and was the NFL's leading tackler during decade of 2000-09.

3 Ronde Barber, 231: After 15 seasons at cornerback, Barber moved to free safety this year at the suggestion of first-year Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano. His 28 career sacks are more than any corner in NFL history.

4T Derrick Brooks, 224: Must be something in the water in Tampa Bay. The former Bucs linebacker held the team's Ironman records until Barber passed him.

4T Kevin Carter, 224: Defensive end played with four teams over 14 seasons. Led the league with 17 sacks in 1999.
