Police investigate apparent suicide attempt

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating an apparent suicide attempt after officers found a man early Saturday in a local motel room suffering from a gunshot wound.

Independence Division officers responded to a call at 7:49 a.m. at the Sun Suites located at 8530 E. Independence Blvd. The caller said a man with possible warrants was inside the motel room and in possession of a stolen firearm, according to police reports.

When officers arrived, they identified themselves, then heard a shot fired from inside the room. Officers entered after hearing a second shot fired.

Inside, police found a man with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and a gun lying next to him. A woman was also in the room and is currently being interviewed by detectives.

The man was transported to CMC-Main with life threatening injuries, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak to a Homicide Unit Detective, or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
