Early voting has been extended for a few more hours in Anson County after vandalism outside of the polling site overnight.
The county’s early voting site was supposed to close at 1 p.m. Saturday, but now will remain open until 5 p.m., according to elections officials. The polling site is located at the Charles Riddle Center, or Anson County Board of Education building, at 320 Camden Rd. in Wadesboro.
Officials say the extended hours come after vandals stole copper from heating and air units at the building and, in the process, also cut the lines for internet service to the building. Anson interim elections director Steve Adams said that prevented the polling site from opening for 45 minutes Saturday morning.
Adams said state officials recommended that the county extend its early-voting hours for Saturday and that move was approved by the local board of elections.
