16-year-olds charged with robbery in Salisbury

SALISBURY -- A pair of teens has been charged with armed robbery in connection with an incident early Sunday, Salisbury police say.

Tykilius Whisonant and Demmanuelle Fincher, each 16, has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to police.

Investigators say the victim, a male, was walking on South Fulton Street near West Innes Street, headed to meet his brother at a friend’s house near South Jackson and Fisher streets. The man was on the phone with his brother, police say, getting directions.

While he was talking to his brother, a man walked up and demanded the phone. The victim refused, and a struggle ensued. The victim’s brother, hearing the disturbance, ran to the scene. The brothers told police that the man trying to get the phone and an accomplice threatened to shoot the two.

The brothers ran, calling police.

A short time later, officers spotted two men nearby and took them into custody.

The two brothers were not hurt, police say.
