Belk donates $100,000 to Sandy victims

Staff reports

Charlotte-based Belk Inc. is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to help with disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy’s ferocious blow to the Northeast, the company said Monday.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who suffered and continue to struggle as a result of this devastating storm. Through this outreach, we hope to help care for our associates, customers, vendors and neighbors,” said CEO Tim Belk, in a statement.

Belk is the largest privately-owned department store company, with 301 locations in 16 states, mostly in the Southeast.
