NC Commissioner of Insurance: Goodwin apparent winner

Democratic incumbent’s advantage is less than 4 percentage points

    Mike Causey→  48.17%

    Wayne Goodwin→  51.83%

    (99 of 100 counties reporting)

With all but one county reporting, unofficial returns have one-term Democratic incumbent Wayne Goodwin over Republican challenger Mike Causey by nearly 3.66 percentage points.

Causey, a small-business owner and former lobbyist from Greensboro, promised a more responsive department and an environment that encourages more insurance options.

He said Goodwin hasn’t addressed high property insurance costs for coastal homeowners.

Goodwin takes credit for keeping auto insurance rates low and for cracking down on insurance fraud.
