A white supremacist group is planning a rally in uptown Charlotte on Saturday to protest illegal immigration.
Between 30 and 40 members of the Detroit-based National Socialist Movement plan to march from the government center to the Old City Hall across from the police station starting around 3 p.m. Saturday.
The organization bills itself as the largest pro-White civil rights organization in America.: Frederick Cook, of Gastonia, one of the organizers, said the ralliers will be wearing all black battle dress uniforms, but plan for a peaceful gathering.
The group has been granted a city permit, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Spokesperson Jessica Lawrence. The Latin American Coalition has also obtained a permit for a counterprotest at the old courthouse, Lawrence said.
She declined to say how many officers the department plans to have on hand.
