Mint Hill police say someone took golf carts for a joyride on a golf course early Tuesday and caused nearly $12,000 damage.
The incident happened sometime before 5 a.m. at Pine Lake Country Club, in the 5500 block of Lebanon Road.
Police say they were called to the course about 5:15 a.m., after an employee who had arrived for work discovered someone had broken into the golf cart storage barn. They discovered someone had taken about 20 golf carts out of the barn, driving some of them into the golf course.
“The suspects apparently took the golf carts onto the course and drove them recklessly,” Mint Hill police Lt. John Rowell said.
Rowell said there was “significant damage” to the golf carts. In addition, some landscaping at the course was damaged.
Police estimate the damage at $10,000 to the carts; $1,000 to the landscaping; and about $800 to the car barn. All of the golf carts were recovered, Rowell said.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Mint Hill police at 704-545-1085.
