Charlotte Preparatory School students and their families collected seven boxes of supplies for U.S. soldiers serving overseas.

The collection was in conjunction with the school’s Veterans Day Assembly Nov. 5 that featured guests from Veterans of Foreign Wars Mecklenburg Post 9488.

“We received a huge supply list from the VFW post,” said Angela Stefanini, director of fine arts at the school who led the campaign. “We had seven boxes full of letters that the students all wrote from different classes and different ages, and all of these supplies that were collected.”

The veterans at the ceremony picked up the supplies, the culmination of a schoolwide effort Oct. 1-Nov. 1.

Students also put together a mural of pictures and stories. “They got so excited that they knew so many veterans and their families that they went home and did some research, and got to ask their parents some questions about them, dig up old photos,” Stefanini said.
