Man charged with Shelby robberies

SHELBY -- A 21-year-old Shelby man has been charged with three September armed robberies, police say.

Marvin Kenneth Maye was charged earlier this week with robberies at a Waffle House, a Family Dollar store, and Mike’s Food Store. In each case, police say, the bandit entered the business with a tire iron and demanded money.

Detectives say Maye already had been arrested by Cleveland County sheriff’s deputies on robbery charges when he was linked to the September cases. He was charged with three counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Maye is being held in the Cleveland County Detention Center under $750,000 bond. Police say they are continuing the investigation.
