LINCOLNTON -- A 25-year-old Denver man will serve about 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges in connection with the death of a neighbor man more than two years ago, Lincoln County authorities say.

The sheriff’s office says John Paul Gaddy entered a guilty plea of felony manslaughter and first-degree arson. He had been charged in the death of Jimmy William Cole, 49, who lived near Gaddy on Oakbrook Lane in Denver.

Gaddy was sentenced to a term of between 9 years and 2 months, and 11 years and 9 months.

Cole’s body was discovered when firefighters were called to his single-story frame house about 8 a.m. on July 21, 2010. Cole’s body was found in the doorway, and authorities say they found blood on the front porch.

Neighbors say Cole lived in the area for 20 years.
