Charlotte Bobcats Observations 11.09.12

By Rick Bonnell

• That was quite a first-half dustup between the Bobcats’ Byron Mullens and Hornets rookie Anthony Davis. The two were jostling in pursuit of a rebound. Mullens threw an elbow, Davis threw a shove, and then it was on.

Referee Bill Kennedy got the worst of it when Bobcats rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist ran Kennedy over trying to play peacemaker. Ultimately Mullens was charged with a flagrant foul and Davis with a technical foul.

That fracas got Davis pumped up. He immediately took the ball at Mullens in the low post, scoring on a jump hook.

• Bobcats center Brendan Haywood missed the game because of a family emergency, so Bismack Biyombo got his first start of the season. That also meant Gana Diop played for the first time this season.

Diop played just six minutes in the first half, leaving the game without a rebound despite ample opportunity. That said a lot about why Diop hasn’t been activated.

• Tons of empty seats Friday night. Clearly a game against the Bobcats doesn’t move the meter in New Orleans.
