Kings Mountain man dies after struck by car

A Kings Mountain man was killed Friday evening after authorities said he was struck by a vehicle while walking down a road.

Authorities say Donald Eugene Blanton Jr., 25, was walking along Goforth Road near Kings Mountain around 8 p.m. Friday when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. There were no lights on the road and Blanton was wearing dark-colored clothing, said Trooper J.T. Prescott of the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Prescott said the vehicle’s driver, who did not realize what he had struck, turned around and called police after realizing he had hit a person. But Blanton was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

No charges have been filed in the collision.
