Mavericks - Bobcats Observations 11.10.12

• Charlotte Bobcats center Brendan Haywood was back from a family emergency, and started Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks. But that doesn’t mean Bismack Biyombo’s 13 rebounds in New Orleans as a fill-in starter went unnoticed.

Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap said pre-game that Biyombo’s play earned him a bigger “bite of the apple’’ as far as minutes. But Biyombo was ineffective in 10 minutes first half (no points, one rebound) and Dunlap gave Gana Diop the first rotation behind Haywood in the third quarter.

Biyombo never returned.

• Referees called Mavs guard (and former Duke player) Dahntay Jones with a flagrant foul for shoving Ben Gordon into Kemba Walker as Walker drove to the basket. The officials ultimately rescinded the flagrant after a video review. I thought the original call was the correct one; a dangerous and unnecessary act.

• Former North Carolina star Vince Carter sure does enjoy playing against the Bobcats. He had 18 points in the first game in Dallas and nailed two first-half 3s Saturday. Bobcats are accommodating about giving him open looks at the basket.
