All lanes of Interstate 77 were back open near I-485 late Saturday after a three-vehicle wreck in southern Mecklenburg County.
Four people were taken to the hospital after the wreck, including an 11-year-old boy and a toddler girl, but none suffered life-threatening injuries, said Trooper E.P. Bradley of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The wreck occurred after 9 p.m. Saturday between the Arrowood Road and I-485 exits after traffic was slowing down from an earlier incident on the interstate in which a trailer came loose from a tractor-trailer.
No one was hurt in the initial incident. But farther down the highway, the driver of a Honda Accord was attempting to slow down when the vehicle was rear-ended by another car. The Honda then struck a minivan.
Bradley said the Hondas driver and two children inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital, but two were being discharged late Saturday.
The driver of the Mazda also was transported, and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, authorities said.
