Police: DWI checkpoints net 142 charges over weekend in Mecklenburg County

More than 140 charges were filed from two DWI checking stations in Mecklenburg County over the weekend.

Friday night, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police set up shop in the 8300 block of Nations Ford Road from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

A total of 82 charges were filed at the checkpoint, including five DWI's, 14 driving while license revoked, four no insurance, 1 no seat belt, and one open container.

CMPD reported one person was arrested on an out-of-state fugitive warrant. A total of eight arrests were made at the checkpoint Friday night.

Saturday, CMPD, UNCCPD and Pineville Police participated in the DWI checking station in the 2200 block of Central Avenue. Officials filed 60 charges during the four-hour campaign.

The charges included 10 DWIs, 15 driving while license revoked, two open containers, one possession of cocaine with intent to deliver/sell, 2 carrying a concealed weapon and one possession of marijuana.
