ROCK HILL A Rock Hill woman who claimed to be the victim of a robbery was arrested Saturday after police say she actually assaulted a mother holding a baby.

Erica Thompson, 27, of 357 Friendship Drive is charged with third-degree assault and battery and filing a false police report, according to Rock Hill police documents.

While at Piedmont Medical Center patient, Thompson told police that she was on Flint Hill Street when a man wearing a hoodie pulled her out her car, hit her several times, took her purse and then dragged her across the road before driving away, a Rock Hill police report states.

Officers realized Thompson matched the description of a suspect they were looking for in connection with a fight that happened in the same area, the report states.

According to another police report, a 24-year-old Rock Hill mother said Thompson followed her to a Flint Hill Street house. Once she put the car in park, Thompson allegedly went to the driver’s side door and tried to punch the mom and drag her out of the car.

The woman was holding her 11-month-old son at the same time Thompson was punching her, the report states.

The victim put the baby down and fought back, the report states, until the victim’s cousin yelled that she was calling the police. Thompson then fled in her car.

Thompson denied having involvement with the fight, insisting that she was robbed. She even filled out a victim’s form in reference to the robbery, the report states.

Thompson later said she wanted to tell the truth and admitted that her purse wasn’t stolen and she did fight with the other woman.
