Your Wednesday morning traffic report

Congestion has largely cleared on many area interstates and highways on Wednesday, but police remain on the scene of nearly a dozen wrecks across Charlotte.

Police were called to a wreck just before 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of Central Avenue and The Plaza. Another collision was reported about ten minutes later in the 1800 block of Arnold Drive.

In east Charlotte, a portion of Eastway Drive remains closed between Central and Kilborne Drive after a driver struck a power pole Tuesday evening. Police originally estimated the road would reopen around 7 a.m., but the scene has yet to be cleared.

Elsewhere, little to no traffic slowdowns are being reported on Mecklenburg-area highways.

But to north, drivers in Alexander County are being asked to avoid Hwy. 16 near Taylorsville after a fire Wednesday morning at an assisted living center. The highway was reduced to one lane of traffic, and the sheriff’s office said the road may not reopen for several hours. Drivers can take Hwy. 127 as an alternate route, officials said.
