No injuries after fire at assisted living center

No injuries have been reported after a fire early Wednesday at an assisted living center in Alexander County.

The fire was reported around 8:25 a.m. at Alexander Assisted Living on Highway 16 south of Taylorsville.

The fire has since been controlled, and all patients and staff were evacuated, according to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office. There was no early word of injuries after the fire.

Highway 16 has been reduced to one lane in the area as crews work to clear the scene. The sheriff’s office is asking people to avoid the area for the next several hours. Drivers can use Hwy. 127 as an alternate route.
