Sterling Elementary wins at jumping

Students from Sterling Elementary in Pineville jump-roped for 47,000 minutes in October, part of McDonald’s Skipping 4 School competition to encourage active lifestyles.

Hundreds of Charlotte-area elementary school students at nearly 40 schools jumped 241,205 minutes in October, with Sterling winning in the 350- to 750-student category.

Winecoff Elementary in Concord won in the 750-plus category with 9,585 minutes.

Physical education instructors and grade-level teachers at each school recorded the time that the students jumped in P.E. class and recess.

The top-jumping school in each category received $300 from McDonald’s toward the purchase of new gym equipment.
