Students from Sterling Elementary in Pineville jump-roped for 47,000 minutes in October, part of McDonalds Skipping 4 School competition to encourage active lifestyles.
Hundreds of Charlotte-area elementary school students at nearly 40 schools jumped 241,205 minutes in October, with Sterling winning in the 350- to 750-student category.
Winecoff Elementary in Concord won in the 750-plus category with 9,585 minutes.
Physical education instructors and grade-level teachers at each school recorded the time that the students jumped in P.E. class and recess.
The top-jumping school in each category received $300 from McDonalds toward the purchase of new gym equipment.
