A driver who struck and killed a school traffic officer near Mooresville earlier this week will face charges in the case, a prosecutor said Friday.
It was not immediately clear Friday whether the 23-year-old driver has been charged yet.
But Iredell Assistant District Attorney Jon Burns said that he had gone over the case with the investigating trooper and “we feel the charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle is appropriate in this case.”
Frank Booth, 59, died Wednesday after he was hit by a Toyota Corolla as he was helping parents get onto N.C. 115 near Mooresville after classes let out at Mount Mourne Middle School.
Trooper J.R. Fleming with the N.C. Highway Patrol has said the driver was obeying the speed limit in the area, and did not appear to have been impaired, distracted or facing a glare that would have kept her from seeing Booth.
