2012-13 Charlotte-Area Basketball: Boys’ Players to Watch

Connor Burchfield, Concord, 6-3, Jr., G: Skilled scorer led Spiders to 28-3 record last season and a N.C. 3A Western regional appearance.

James Demery, Northside Christian, 6-5, Jr., G: Part of a deep team that includes former Gaston Day star Keyshawn Woods (6-5, Jr., G), Demery is among the state’s top 10 players in his class.

Cazemon Hayes, Berry, 6-4, Sr., G: Delaware recruit averaged 16 points, five rebounds and had a 3.8 GPA.

Emmanuel Patton, Harding, 6-6, Sr., F: Will pair with 6-9 Stephen Burrough in the front court. Patton averaged 16 ppg, 5 rpg last season on 23-5 team.

Clayton Massey, Myers Park, 6-8, Sr., F: Tied for No. 10 among N.C. seniors, Massey averaged 10 ppg, 7 rpg last season.

Luke Maye, Hough, 6-7, So. F: Coming off strong freshman season (16 ppg, 9 rpg) and could be more effective moving to PF with 6-10 C Tucker Thompson coming in from Pine Lake Prep.

Shelton Mitchell, Cuthbertson, 6-2, Jr., G: One of the nation’s top recruits in his class led Cuthbertson to the state finals last season.

Kennedy Meeks, West Charlotte, 6-9 3/4, Sr., C: UNC-bound top-20 national recruit in senior class will try to lead his team to a third straight N.C. 4A state finals appearance.

Patrick Rooks, Charlotte Christian, 6-3, Sr., G: Committed to Clemson, Rooks averaged 14.2 ppg and shot nearly 40 percent from 3-point range.

Troy Warren, Lake Norman, 6-9, Sr, C: Averaged 8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.4 blocks. Ranked No. 10 among N.C. seniors by national recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons.
