2012-13 Charlotte-Area Basketball: Girls' Players to Watch

Gigi Bailey, Charlotte Christian, 6-2, Sr., C: Averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds last season; all-conference and all-state pick.

Brielle Blair, Salisbury, 6-1, Jr., F: Averaged 22.3 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 3.5 bpg; Associated Press all-state pick.

Ralisha Currence, Harding, 5-5, Sr., G: Started for the Rams, who won the N.C. 3A final. She averaged 10 points, 4 assists. She’s one of two returning starters.

Aliyah Mazyck, Myers Park, 5-9, So., G: Only freshman on 2011-12 Observer All-Mecklenburg team returns to a 31-1 team that returns four starters.

Milan Quinn, Berry, 6-2, Sr., F/C: Quinn, who carries a 4.6 GPA, is signed to play at Wake Forest. She’s among top interior players in Mecklenburg County.

Rhydeiah Rogers, Myers Park, 6-0, Sr., G: Recognized by ESPN as one of the nation’s top sophomores, Rogers is the daughter of former Wake Forest and NBA player Rodney Rogers.

Madi Story, Bandys, 5-11, Soph., G: Conference player of the year led her team to a 28-3 record and state semifinal berth. Averaged 17.9 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 3.8 apg, 3.2 spg. In playoffs, averaged 26 ppg and shot 58 percent from the field.

Laquisha Taylor, Independence, 5-9, Sr., G: One of the area’s most prolific scorers, Taylor averaged 21 points per game last season.

Stephanie Watts, Weddington, 5-10, Soph., G: Might be one of the state’s top five players regardless of class. Averaged 18.3 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 5.3 apg and 3.8 spg. Offers from Charlotte, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest.

Jatarie White, Providence Day, 6-3, Jr., C: Ranked No. 3 in the nation by ESPN in her class, White averaged 14 ppg, 8 rpg, 2 bpg last season.
