CONCORD -- One short-term and one long-term project will close sections of two Concord roads this week, city officials say.
Sometime Monday, crews will close James Street SW, a short thoroughfare between Chestnut Drive SW and Young Avenue SW. The closure is to replace a stormwater culvert, and it is expected to last about 30 days.
In addition to replacing an aging drainage system, the project will increase the size of the culvert, will add about 50 feet of sidewalk, and will provide new retaining walls to prevent erosion along the bank.
The James Street closure is expected to last until Dec. 19. Motorists can use Georgia Street SW as an alternate.
Nearby, crews will close Kerr Street NW, between Cabarrus Avenue W and Guy Avenue NW, from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 7 a.m. Wednesday. The closure is to install a new manhole, in advance of sewer line work planned in February.
