The N.C. Highway Patrol says a 2-year-old boy was the person killed in an early-morning Interstate 77 crash Saturday that troopers say involved two speeding vehicles.
The victim of the crash, which happened about 1 a.m. on northbound I-77 between Remount Road and West Boulevard, was identified as Trevon Nichols.
He was a passenger in one of the cars that slammed into the median. Troopers say the drivers of the two Mitsubishi Eclipses were racing when they crashed. The driver and an adult passenger in the car in which Trevon was riding were seriously injured. The driver of the other car also was hospitalized.
Troopers say charges are pending in the case.
