Authorities: Charlotte man’s death probably not due to foul play

SALISBURY -- Rowan County authorities say the Charlotte man whose body was found on school property late last week apparently was not the victim of foul play.

The sheriff’s office said Monday that a review of text and voice mail messages indicates that foul play was not a factor in the death of Erasmo Garcia-Jimenez, 39. His body was discovered Friday night on property of Millbridge Elementary School.

The vehicle he was driving was found nearby.

A passing motorist called the sheriff’s office about 8 p.m. Friday, reporting a fire near the edge of a wooded area not far from the school. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a burned body at the site.

The sheriff’s office said Monday it is awaiting autopsy results before making a final determination in the case.
