Monroe Kristina Lipka is still shaken up. The 28-year-old said when a truck full of armed men pulled up to her home Sunday, she first thought she was being robbed.
“I was trying to shut the door but by the time I got up to it they were coming at me,” she said. Lipka claimed the men opened the door and came into her house. Her grandmother, Vera O’Bryan – who lives next door – heard the commotion and ran outside to help.
“It’s not something that happens around here, especially in broad daylight. Men with guns, running around the house, in the back with a shotgun,” said O’Bryan.
Lipka said the men were cursing and yelling. She said they told her to put her dog away or they would shoot it. They repeatedly questioned her on the whereabouts of a former friend, whom she claimed she hadn’t seen in months. Lipka also insisted that friend never lived in her house.
Lipka said she asked the men several times who they were as they searched the house. Finally, she said one man answered.
“He said he was a federal agent, U.S. Marshal. Then he said the younger guy was a deputy with the Union County Sheriff’s Department,” said Lipka.
Her grandmother said one man was wearing a badge around his neck that said federal agent.
Lipka called the Union County Sheriff’s Office after the men left her house. A deputy confirmed those men were not agents nor with his department. He told her they were bounty hunters for In and Out Bondsman in Charlotte.
NBC Charlotte did speak with In and Out Bondsman late Monday night. A woman with the company denied anyone misrepresented themselves as law enforcement. She said they told Lipka they were bondsmen and she let them into her home. The woman did admit that the police have questioned them about the incident, but said the bondsmen did nothing wrong.
The situation is currently being investigated by deputies. No charges have been presented at this time.
