CMPD collecting old cell phones

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have launched a charity drive to collect unwanted cell phones.

Police spokesman Rob Tufano says money raised from collecting the phones -- which can be recycled -- will go to the Shelter for Battered Women. He says the phones can be dropped off through Dec. 31 at any of CMPD’s 13 patrol division offices.

Phones are accepted in any condition.

For details on the campaign and how to help, contact Melissa Anne Bowlin at mbowlin@cmpd.org.
