ROCK HILL Santa has set a high standard for himself to arrive in style for ChristmasVille in downtown Rock Hill.
St. Nick proved he wasn’t scared of heights last year when he parachuted in to greet local children before the annual holiday festival. In his Santa suit, he jumped out of a plane 3,000 feet above the ground then led a Jingle Bell parade down Main Street.
This year, he’ll arrive by helicopter, landing on the deck of the Black Street parking garage.
About 200 kindergarten students will join Mother Goose and ChristmasVille gnomes to welcome Santa during his big entrance at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 27.
ChristmasVille, named North and South Carolina Event of the Year by Carolina Showfest, offers more than 70 events for all ages.
The seventh annual ChristmasVille officially starts Nov. 29 with The Lighting of The Village on Main Street.
Opening ceremony music will keep with this year’s theme: “ChristmasVille Rocks,” a nostalgic celebration with sounds and sights from the 1950s.
New additions include fireworks added to the traditional “Grand Finale” on Dec. 2 starting at 5 p.m. A carousel was added to the weekend’s Main Street activities.
The iconic ChristmasVille gnomes will try something new this year, too.
Families can attend a pancake breakfast with the gnomes on Dec. 1 at 7 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in downtown. The cost is $6 per person and children under age 5 eat for free.
The ChristmasVille parade is Nov. 30 along Oakland Avenue, White Street and Main Street starting at 6:30 p.m.
Other activities include a gingerbread house contest, ice skating in the Old Town Amphitheater and trackless train rides for kids.
