Kids can shop for prewrapped gifts priced from 50 cents to $5. Elves will be on hand to assist. In addition, kids can meet with Santa for free, and parents are welcome to take pictures with their own cameras.

Waxhaw’s Holiday Festival of Lights

5:30 p.m. Friday. West North Main Street, downtown Waxhaw. waxhaw.com.

Some 75,000 lights will illuminate downtown, and snow is promised. Visitors can play reindeer games, listen to live holiday music and enjoy free carriage rides. Santa will be arriving as well. The first 200 children to bring their wish list to Santa will get a free gift.

‘Walk-off-the-turkey’ hike

The 10 a.m. walk will be medium to fast-paced; 1 p.m. is a family nature walk.

Entertainment

Apollo Live Lounge Tour

Presented by BET Networks, the evening will feature local entertainers performing in an enhanced lounge experience in the spirit of the Apollo Theater.
