Detectives identify victim in Grier Heights shooting

Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in Grier Heights that happened Wednesday afternoon. Police identified the victim as Michael Donnell Anthony, 29.

About 1:15 p.m., officers from the Providence Division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a call about shots fired near Dunn Avenue and Orange Street, according to a release from the CMPD.

Officers found the man with an apparent gunshot wound in the 3000 block of Dunn Avenue. Shortly after, Medic pronounced him dead, the release said.

In addition to CMPD homicide detectives, members of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team, intelligence unit and the vice and gang unit also responded to the scene.
