A 63-year-old Charlotte man died Thursday when his car flipped on the inner loop of I-485 in northeast Charlotte near Harrisburg Road, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Trooper Jeff Greer said authorities received a call around 2:15 p.m. They believe that Edward Sullivan was driving on I-485 toward Mint Hill when he experienced a medical emergency. Greer said he believes Sullivan, who was diabetic, may have “lost consciousness.”
Sullivan’s car ran off the road to the right, came back and overcorrected. The car then went into the median where it struck the cable wire and overturned. Sullivan, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected.
Sullivan was the only person in the car.
Authorities closed the road around 2:30 p.m. and reopened it around 4:30 p.m., Greer said.
