Santa time: Santa will show up at Pineville ’s Annual Tree Lighting on Dec. 1. in the parking lot of the old Pineville Police Station, 300 Main St. at 6:30 p.m. Children will have a chance to sit with him and let him know what they want for Christmas. There is also a breakfast with Santa on Dec. 8. On Christmas Eve, Santa will ride through town on a Pineville Fire Truck starting at 9:30 a.m. throwing candy to anyone outside waiting to see him. For information, call Pineville town hall, 704-889-2291.Matthews Gingerbread competition: Matthews Alive Inc. is hosting a Gingerbread House Contest in conjunction with the Town of Matthews “Hometown Holidays Celebration.” All contest entries must arrive at the Matthews Chamber of Commerce no later than Nov. 30. Entries can be dropped off as early as Nov. 28. The chamber is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, 210 Matthews Station St. Judging will take place Dec. 1st with public display to follow. Ballantyne Run for cancer benefit: Wannabe Cancer Free is holding its inaugural 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run in south Charlotte on Dec. 8. at Ardrey Kell High School at 8:30 a.m.Wannabe Cancer Free aims to increase awareness and support for the fight against cancer through the promotion of a healthy, athletic lifestyle.
