Tutor Crew volunteers: Bailey Middle School is seeking volunteers to tutor students one-on-one and in small groups to work on reading and writing skills. Cannon

First-grade information session: The Cannon School will host an information session for parents of rising first-graders at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 on the school’s campus at 5801 Poplar Tent Road, Concord. Davidson Elementary

Mathapalooza: Davidson Elementary third-grade “mathletes” received recognition in four events at the Mathapalooza competition sponsored by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on Nov. 3. The team of Tess Palmer, Ella Watt, Drew Adams, Julian Rizo and Brooke Van Epps took first place in the team competition, in which students analyzed a situation and solved mathematical problems within a limited time frame. Andrew Kryshtalowych placed fifth in the individual word problem competition, and the team of Ryan Harris, Laura Porter and Finley Heller placed third in the team building/hands-on exploration session, in which students worked as a team to build a structure. The team of Brooke Van Epps, Drew Adams and Ella Watt placed fifth in the same category.

Hough High

Volunteer judges: Volunteers are needed to judge the school’s 2013 Graduate Senior Project presentations. Judges will be paired with a school faculty member to evaluate each senior’s presentation. Judging will take place 7 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Dec. 10-14 at the school, 12420 Bailey Road, Cornelius. For details or to volunteer, contact Jeanmarie Adams at adamsjm@roadrunner.com.

Wreath and swag sale: The orchestra is selling wreaths, swags and candle wreaths to raise money for the Booster Club. All items are made fresh in Sugar Mountain. 5K Fun Run: The academy will hold its first 5K Fun Run/Walk For Missions Outreach starting at 8:45 a.m. Feb. 23. The entry fee is $30 before Jan. 31 and $35 before Feb. 9.
