DECA awards: At Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ DECA Marketing Competitive Events Conference, 115 Mallard Creek High School students earned proficiency awards. Among top winners: Zach White, first place in restaurant and food service management; David Folk, second place, Tyler McClung, third place, and Amila Porobic, fifth place in quick-serve restaurant management; Beau DeVaul, fourth place in principles of marketing; and Madison Wright, sixth place in hotel and lodging management.

MLK award nominations: The city is asking for nominations for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Medallion Award. Nominations are due by Dec. 5. It is the city’s highest recognition to honor the Martin Luther King holiday. The winner will be chosen for promoting Kings’ ideals. Fundred Dollar Bill Project: Hear artist Mel Chin at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 29 present a talk, “For a Few Dollars More.” He is currently collecting 3 million “fundreds,” or hand-drawn interpretations of a $100 bill, to raise awareness about the cost of treating New Orleans’ contaminated soil. Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. Free; “fundred” donation requested.
