STATESVILLE -- A Charlotte woman who said she was an interior decorator has been charged in Iredell County with not following through with contracts, according to the sheriff’s office.

Barbara Green-Knapp, 49, was charged last week with obtaining property by false pretense, the sheriff’s office says.

According to detectives, an Iredell County family hired Green-Knapp in May and consulted with her several times. The family said it wrote three separate checks to Green-Knapp, totaling $21,215.03 for items. The family contacted the sheriff’s office in September, and detectives said they talked to Green-Knapp and retrieved some of the furnishings that had been purchased.

At the time, detectives say, Green-Knapp said she would buy the rest of the items “in several weeks.”

Investigators say the items were not ordered, and they arrested the woman early last week. Detectives say Green-Knapp also was served with a Mecklenburg County warrant for felony worthless check charges.
