Iredell nabs 2 on drug charges after I-77 stop

STATESVILLE -- Iredell County authorities’ continued patrols on Interstate 77 led to the arrest of two out-of-state men Tuesday on drug-related charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

Drug agents have made a number of arrests in recent years on I-77, saying the highway is a pipeline for the drug trade between the deep South and the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

The most recent arrests were of Adam Daniel Dagenais, 29, of New Hampshire; and Tomas Garrett Sands, 29, of Atlanta. They were stopped for several traffic violations, according to deputies. When deputies detected an odor of marijuana in the car, they eventually conducted a search.

Deputies say they found 277 grams of high-grade marijuana with a street value of more than $5,400. They also found $10,000 cash in the vehicle, according to authorities.

Each man was charged with felony possession of marijuana.
