NASCAR driver Ryan Newman, TV commentator Larry McReynolds and retired Penske Racing president Don Miller will join dozens of other motorsports figures signing autographs at the 24th annual Stocks for Tots charity event at NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville on Dec. 11.Also on hand will be former NASCAR driver and current TV commentator Jimmy Spencer, 2005 Truck Series champion Ted Musgrave, 1992 Busch Series champion Joe Nemechek, driver John Andretti and retired drivers Jerry Nadeau and Lake Speed.The event also will include a silent auction and a racing memorabilia store selling autographed sheet metal, wheels and crew shirts donated by several NASCAR teams. Several racing tires and wheels will be sold.All proceeds will go to Statesville-based SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), which also has a Mooresville office.Since the first Stocks for Tots fundraiser at the Mooresville Armory in December 1989, the event has raised about $850,000 and distributed nearly 50,000 Christmas toys to local children.Each year, thousands of people visit Mooresville for the event, where they meet many of their favorite NASCAR and National Hot Rod Association drivers and celebrities. Show cars will be displayed, and children get to visit Santa.Neil Castles, Peanut Thurman, Bill Mangum and Gene Hobby will be among 23 racing legends signing autographs from 5 to 6:30 p.m.All 32 other motorsports personalities who’ve said they’ll appear will sign from 7 to 9 p.m. Appearances are subject to change without notice.Wristbands are needed for admission and can be obtained with a suggested minimum $10 cash donation and a new, unwrapped toy. Toys must be a minimum $10 value.Wristbands will be available on the day of the event beginning at 10 a.m. at the North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame, 119 Knob Hill Road, in Lakeside Business Park at Interstate 77 Mooresville Exit 36. Fans can avoid standing in line and assure themselves a premium wristband number by buying them in advance through Dec. 10 at the Hall of Fame or by calling 704-663-5331.
