3rd Salisbury firefighter fired in sex-related case

SALISBURY -- Officials in Salisbury say a third firefighter has been fired in connection with an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct by members of the city’s fire department.

The latest to be fired was Jeremy Carter, who received notice Thursday. Earlier this week, fire department employees Tim Grisham and Chet Hedrick were fired.

Carter was among two members of the department who were demoted and suspended originally. But city officials said Thursday that based on additional information gathered in the probe, they decided to fire Carter.

City officials have not disclosed exactly what happened, but documents made public by the city earlier this week in connection with the Grisham and Hedrick firings mentioned the distribution of “an inappropriate photo,” among other allegations.

The investigation is continuing, and Salisbury officials say the terminations have not had an impact on the fire department’s ability to serve the city.
