2 sentenced on sex-related charges

The District Attorney’s Office in Hickory says two men have entered guilty pleas this week on sex-related charges and sentenced to lengthy prison terms.

The two were identified as Bruce Edmund Powell, 55, of Hudson; and Jason Alexander Marbach, 39, of Valdese.

Powell entered a guilty plea in Caldwell County Superior Court to three felony counts of second-degree sexual offense, authorities say. They also say Marbach entered a guilty plea in Burke County Superior Court to felony charges of statutory rape/sex offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child.

Powell was sentenced to between nine years eight months and 12 years five months in prison. Authorities say he was charged in connection with incidents between June 2009 and April 2010 in Caldwell County, involving three victims.

Marbach was sentenced to between 12 years three months and 15 years three months. He was charged in connection with incidents that happened in June 2009 in Burke County, prosecutors say.
