Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera on Friday called running back Jonathan Stewart very doubtful for Sundays game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Stewarts right ankle hasnt been 100 percent all season, and he has a high left ankle sprain suffered early in the second half of Mondays game against the Eagles.
Hes very sore and didnt do a lot of moving around today, Rivera said. Well see again tomorrow and probably make the decision sometime tomorrow.
If Stewart cant go, former starter DeAngelo Williams will start for the first time since Week 5 against Seattle.
Stewart is second on the team behind quarterback Cam Newton with 336 rushing yards on 93 carries. Williams, who was demoted after the bye week, has 292 yards on 91 carries this season.
Other injuries: Cornerback Captain Munnerlyn left practice Friday when his injured hamstring became sore.
Munnerlyn is listed as questionable for Sunday. Munnerlyn injured the hamstring during Monday nights game and had not practiced all week.
If Munnerlyn is out, safety Sherrod Martin would play the role of nickel cornerback. Rivera said hes been pleased with Martins play of late.
He dropped three interceptions (against the Eagles) but the nice thing is you see hes making good decisions and hes putting himself in position to make those plays, Rivera said. And I think its all part of the learning process that hes gone through. I thought his tackling this year, compared to last year, has been very good.
Reserve defensive end Antwan Applewhite (hamstring), who has missed the past five games, is also listed as doubtful for Sunday.
Quarterback Cam Newton (right wrist) is probable. He participated fully all week after injuring the wrist breaking his fall on a screen pass Monday night.
Tolbert fined: Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert was fined $21,000 by the NFL for his peel-back block against the Eagles on Monday.
Tolbert was flagged for clipping on the opening kickoff of the second half. He plans to appeal the fine.
Hall of Greene: Former Panthers linebacker Kevin Greene is among 27 semifinalists for the 2013 NFL Hall of Fame class. The list, announced Friday, will be reduced to 15 finalists in early January.
