Observations: Philadelphia Sixers - Charlotte Bobcats

By Rick Bonnell

• Philadelphia 76ers coach Doug Collins said pre-game if he voted for Most Improved Player right now, it would be Charlotte Bobcat Byron Mullens or Dallas Maverick O.J. Mayo. When I asked Collins what so impressed him about Mullens, he mentioned Mullens is in great shape, which means he’s supplying energy at both ends.

• Bobcats coach Mike Dunlap was asked about Gerald Henderson’s sprained left foot pre-game. Dunlap said Henderson is probably well enough that he could have been activated Friday and played 5-10 minutes. But Dunlap said that’s hardly worth the risk of re-injury. The Bobcats will be patient about Henderson’s return.

• The other day Dunlap said he expected rookie Jeff Taylor to have immediate impact as a defender, but Taylor’s offense has come into play faster than the coaches anticipated. Taylor is posting up and driving more. He hit double figures in the third quarter, the sixth time in seven games he’s reached 10 or more points.

• The Bobcats have quite a homestand starting with Friday night; six of seven are at Time Warner Cable Arena. Four of those home games are against Western Conference teams.
