Overnight road closures will continue this week on Interstate 85 in north Charlotte, as crews continue the job of demolishing the old Mallard Creek Road bridge.
The northbound lanes of I-85 will be closed again Monday night and early Tuesday, and crews will switch Tuesday night to the southbound side for the rest of the week. Work on the bridge over the northbound lanes began last week.
The northbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday night to 5 a.m. Tuesday. The same hours will be used Tuesday through Friday nights on the southbound side.
Northbound traffic is being detoured off I-85 onto I-485’s inner loop, then onto U.S. 29 northbound and Bruton Smith Boulevard, back to I-85. Southbound traffic will follow the opposite routing on its detour.
A new bridge was built to accommodate the new on and off ramps for the $92.2 million interchange at I-85 and I-485. Traffic was shifted to the new bridge Nov. 17. The interchange project is scheduled for completing in June 2014.
