Theatre presentation: The school’s ACT 1 drama team will present Elton John and Tim Rice’s “AIDA” School Edition at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Elevation Church, Blakeney campus. For details, call 704-366-5657, ext. 1032.
Drama competition: The school’s ACT 1 team recently competed at the state level in the N.C. Theatre Competition and won Excellence in Ensemble Acting for the entire cast and Excellence in Live Music for students Brad Kesling and Nathan Pillmore for their production of “Almost, Maine.”
Winter concert: The PHS Orchestra will present its annual Winter Concert at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the auditorium.
Judges needed: The school’s Speech and Debate Team needs adult judges to help run the annual Laird Lewis Invitational Jan. 4-5. To volunteer, visit http://lairdlewis.org/judges/
Open house: The school will host an open house for families with children ages 2 ½ through eighth grade at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15. Register at 704-366-5994, ext. 143 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Open house: The school’s International Language Academy at 8900 Park Road will host a World Language Magnet Open House from 7 to 8 p.m. Dec. 10. Families and students will be able to visit classrooms and speak with teachers. For details, email email@example.com.
Charlotte Country Day
Pottery workshop: The school recently partnered with Artworks 945 artists and Urban Ministry Center for a community service project. Students, parents and faculty created pottery bowls which will be auctioned on the last Sunday in January to raise funds for Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
Chamber choir: The school’s Chamber Choir recently won first place at the Charlotte Student Hunger Drive’s talent show for their rendition of “Some Nights” by fun. The choir was later recognized for their win on a local TV segment.
Theater awards: Theater teacher Barbara Mager was named N.C. Theater Educator of the Year during the NCTC Drama Festival.
Fencing award: Emma Burri won a gold and bronze medal in the 2012 N.C. Junior Olympic Fencing Qualifier in Women’s Epee events. Emma will represent North Carolina at the national level championships.
