2012 All-Cabarrus News boys’ soccer team

The Central Cabarrus soccer team is again getting used to winning.

After more than a decade without winning a conference title, the Vikings – led by coach Michael Dye – won their second straight South Piedmont Conference title, going 17-5 overall (11-3 in league play).

Central Cabarrus was the only team from the SPC to win a playoff game, beating Monroe Parkwood before losing to Marvin Ridge in the second round.

Jay M. Robinson, Concord, Hickory Ridge and Cox Mill also made the postseason, but had first-round exits.

First Assembly (17-3-1, 10-2) won the Metrolina Athletic Conference (MAC) regular-season championship and reached the NCISAA 2A state quarterfinals.

Cabarrus News boys’ soccer player of the year: Jason Andrejchak, Jay M. Robinson

Jason Andrejchak has accomplished a lot of his goals on the Jay M. Robinson soccer team.

For the last four years, he has spent most of his time putting goals in the back of the net for the Bulldogs as he capped his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer, finishing with 77 career goals.

Andrejchak, who is also a standout for his North Meck Soccer Academy team, had 29 goals for Robinson this year to earn all-state, all-region and SPC Player of the Year honors in the process.

Andrejchak hopes to continue his soccer career in college. He says he’s leaning toward Emory University in Atlanta.

Cabarrus News boys’ soccer coach of the year: Matthew Bennett, Concord

Matthew Bennett had a lot of confidence that his Concord soccer team could move past last year’s woes.

After going 3-14 last season (including 3-10-1 in the SPC), the Spiders got off to a 3-4 start to 2012.

But then, Concord went on a tear to win 10 of its last 12 games to close the season 13-6-1, including 10-4 in SPC play, to put them in a second-place tie with Robinson in the league.

While Bennett and the Spiders lost 4-0 to Weddington in their opening playoff game, they not only have a lot to be proud of, but also return a solid group of players to build upon this season next fall.
