This week is the last chance to register new students for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools if parents want to get them into the most popular magnets.
Friday is the deadline for students to be registered if they want to take part in the January magnet lottery for 2013-14. Current students don’t need to do anything, but rising kindergarteners and others who expect to enter CMS in August must sign up.
New students who register later can attend their neighborhood school or enter a second magnet lottery, but many magnets fill all or most of their seats in the first lottery.
Students who will be 5 as of Aug. 31 are eligible for kindergarten. Children who turn 4 by that date are eligible for CMS’ Montessori prekindergarten classes, which require placement through the magnet lottery.
