Several new roads will open Wednesday in northeast Charlotte, as part of the same project that will complete the citys outerbelt highway.
The N.C. Department of Transportation says two new roads and a new segment of another thoroughfare will open by 4 p.m. The roads will help with the flow of traffic in the Charlotte Outer Loop project, which includes the completion of the final 5.7-mile segment of Interstate 485.
The project is scheduled for completion by December 2014.
Scheduled for opening today:
-- A new segment of Eastfield Road, from N.C. 115 (Old Statesville Road) to Browne Road.
-- Independence Hill Road, a new road, which runs from N.C. 115 to Eastfield Road.
-- Dixon Farm Road, another new road, which will tie into Eastfield Road.
New traffic signals will operate at Independence Hill and Eastfield roads, but the signal at Alexanderana and Eastfield roads will be removed. That signal will be replaced by stop signs.
Motorists are urged to use caution at these intersections.
