Work on the new Charlotte Knights baseball stadium and other projects have caused portions of several roads to be closed in Charlotte for periods of up to several weeks -- and permanently, in one case.
The closures involve West Third Street, Kings Drive, Elizabeth Avenue and South Mint Street in or near uptown, along with Bay Street in the Plaza Midwood area, and Gleneagles Road in south Charlotte.
Here is a summary:
South Mint Street: A portion of the road, between West Third Street and West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, was closed at 9 a.m. Wednesday. It will remain closed until 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29. Crews are doing storm drainage installation for the baseball stadium.
West Third Street: The 400 block, between South Graham Street and the Third-Fourth Street Connector, was closed permanently Monday. That is in connection with the new stadium. West Fourth Street now handles two-way traffic in that area.
Kings Drive-Elizabeth Avenue intersection: This was closed Monday and is not scheduled to reopen until 4 p.m. next Wednesday. Crews are doing utility work, and it means both roads are closed in the area, near the CPCC Central Campus. The detour uses McDowell Street, Seventh Street, Charlottetowne Avenue, and Fourth Street.
Bay Street: This was closed Monday at the Pecan Avenue intersection and is scheduled to remain closed until around Dec. 17. The closure is to make improvements at the intersection.
Gleneagles Road: The eastbound lane was closed last weekend at Bar Harbor Lane and will remain closed until 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22. Crews are installing new storm drainage pipe. Two-way traffic is being maintained in the area, though.
